Reds' Votto, Cabrera sidelined with injuries

Reds first baseman Joey Votto is out of the lineup tonight against the Pirates with a wrist injury.

Former Cardinals utilityman Miguel Cairo will be taking his place in the lineup. No mention yet about the severity of the injury or how long Votto is expected to be out. He joins infielder Orlando Cabrera on the sideline. Cabrera was disabled with a strained left oblique. He hurt himself swinging at a pitch in Cincinnati's Monday night win over the Pirates.

Votto has been considered a candidate for the National League's Most Valuable Player Award. He's batting .322 with 27 homers and 72 RBIs. Defending MVP Albert Pujols reached the .300 mark Monday night after a brief dip below. The Cardinals first baseman has 26 homers and 75 RBIs.
