Congratulations to Albert Pujols on bashing his 40th homer of the season Thursday against the Pirates.
It's the sixth time he reached the 40 homer mark in his 10 years of Major League Baseball. The high came in 2006 when he hit 49. He seemed on pace to break that personal best last season but had a power outage the last month of the season which many believe was the fault of his right elbow.
The long hit also padded Pujols' batting average to .308 for the season, hopefully putting to rest concerns that he could slip below the .300 mark for a full season for the first time in his career because of trying to play through injuries. Pujols' worst season in terms of batting average was his second season when he hit .314 for the year.
