The Cardinals have inquired with the Orioles about Miguel Tejada, according to Fox Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal.
Tejada is hitting .271 with nine homers in his second stint with Baltimore. He spent most of his career at shortstop, but now plays third base.
The Birds' interest in the aging Tejada makes me wonder if the Cardinals are un-optimistic about the return of in house third sacker David Freese who went on the disabled list with a bruised ankle and then settled in there when he dropped a weight to break his toe.
According to GM John Mozeliak, the Redbirds are content with their bench and are looking for a starting player more than an extra hand.
