I would have laughed at that script if it was a movie. The rookie star hits a foul pop-up in a tie game in the tenth inning only to have a new life when the ball is dropped by the fielder.
So he makes the most of his second chance and cranks a game winning home run... Yeah, right.
But that's what happened when Colby Rasmus pulled the third game of the Giants series out of the fire Wednesday with a long blast.
The Cardinals won 2-1, but starter Adam Wainwright was robbed of a win even though he pitched a great eight innings. The offense, now minus the injured Mark DeRosa, continues to sputter. Ryan Ludwick drove in the only Redbird run to come during regulation. But he grounded into a frustrating double play with runners at first and third and one out when a fly ball could have provided an important insurance run.
Cardinals Star of the Game: This one is going to be split between Rasmus and Wainright. Wainwright was the workhorse of the game, contributing throughout. Then Rasmus was the opportunist, making the most of his chance to be the deciding factor.
Lowlight: I'm not going to complain about anything. I am just thrilled to get a win.
