Former Cardinals second baseman Ronnie Belliard looks like a favorite to win a bench job with the Dodgers thanks to his ability to play first base, according to a story in the L.A. Times.
Manager Joe Torre told the paper, although Belliard's defense at first has been rought, he seems to still have good enough hands to play there.
Belliard looked done when he played for the Cardinals in 2006 -- except for that ranging play in short right field he made to put away the Padres in the first round of the playoffs. And while his days as a starter were pretty much over at that point, he has carved out a pretty respectable career as a reserve.
