It looks like the Khalil Greene era may soon be over.
The Cardinals are apparently looking for a place to dump their only financially signifiant off-season acquisition, according to the Boston Globe. The paper reports that St. Louis has offered Greene to the shortstop deficient Red Sox in a trade that would almost certainly net the Redbirds next to nothing in return while forcing them to eat a large chunk of Greene's salary.
So, for the record, our penny pinching front office is paying Adam Kennedy $4 million to play for Oakland, Troy Glaus $11.25 million not to play a single game so far this season and Greene $6.5 to be trapped on the bench with anxiety issues. But my count, that is nearly $22 million of the Cardinals $88.5 million payroll is pretty much being completely wasted.
