Cardinals at Phillies July 25

The down side, of course, is the new look Cardinals were spanked on Sunday by the defending World Series champion Phillies.

But, while the bullpen was terrible, the Redbirds offense outhit the high octane Philadelphia batsmen and scored enough to give the team a good chance to win.

Not only has Matt Holliday continued to show the spark that Cardinals fans hoped he would provide, but is it coincidence that not only is a much less pressured Ryan Ludwick suddenly hot, but also Rick Ankiel has gone from seemingly hopelessly overmatched at the plate to stroking homers and extra base hits with ease?

The Birds will have their work cut out Sunday with the struggling Todd Wellemeyer on the mound. But hopefully they can steal one against arguably the best team in baseball and win the series. Then on Monday we can give Holliday a proper St. Louis welcome and see if we can convince him to autograph a new contract with the Cardinals.
