The Cardinals have released former Marlins pitcher Renyel Pinto who was toiling at Class AAA Memphis.
Pinto was 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA for Florida when he was disabled due to what was said to be a slight elbow problem. Was it was time for him to be activated, he was released instead. The Redbirds quickly jumped in looking for some lefthanded bullpen depth. And that's why it's odd that Pinto was dumped.
Although he was somewhat wild and had a 4.78 ERA, Pinto was striking out hitters. And the Cardinals seemingly have a need for lefty help with Dennys Reyes out for the better part of a month with elbow problems and Trever Miller struggling under the increased workload.
