Word out of Boston is that the Red Sox organization has released former Cardinals slugger Chris Duncan.
Little Dunc was playing at Class A Pawtucket where he struggled to a .188 batting average with two homers in 85 at bats.
It's a shame that his career has been placed in jeopardy by the neck injury that knocked him out last season. While Duncan's defense was hard to watch at times, it was sure fun to watch him hit when he burst on the scene in late 2005 and throughout the 2006 season when he contributed to the Cardinals 10th World Series Championship.
Duncan was traded by the Cardinals last month to the Red Sox in exchange for infielder Julio Lugo who has been a valuable contributor to the Cardinals both at the plate and in the field at second base.
I hope Duncan gets healthy and catches on someplace next season.
