Oakland claims to be out of the running for former Cardinals starter Mark Mulder, who played with the Athletics prior to his four years in St. Louis.
The A's need pitching help with Justin Duchscherer on the shelf. But, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the team considers Mulder to be too risky to justify the investment. The tall lefty has been unable to pitch effectively since 2006 and, despite multiple surgeries and endless rehab work, his shoulder continues to suffer from a lack of range of movement.
