Fresh off of firing his agent, Felipe Lopez has become something of a hot commodity with reports that as many as four teams are courting him.
The Cardinals and Padres are the only teams named in an ESPN report about Lopez who fired agent Scott Boras out of frustration caused by not having a contract by the middle of February.
Lopez wants to be a starter, something the Cardinals can't promise. But he would at least have a chance to compete for a starting job in St. Louis, battling rookie David Freese at third base. He could also find plenty of playing time filling in for shortstop Brendan Ryan if he isn't ready to go at the start of the season thanks to wrist surgery, playing second against lefty starters and giving the corner outfielders a day off now and then.
All San Diego can promise is that Lopez won't have to worry about playing meaningful games in September and October.
