It looks like the Cardinals are finally going to disable Ryan Ludwick because of a lingering calf strain.
Ludwick reportedly aggravated his calf injury yesterday while walking on a treadmill.
The Cardinals haven't yet announced who will replace Ludwick, although Jon Jay didn't deserve to be demoted when the Birds signed Randy Winn. And he has done nothing but hit since being sent back to class AAA Memphis.
Fernando Salas, who pitched pretty well in his latest call up from Memphis, was shipped back to the minors today. The Birds don't need the extra pitcher thanks to Blake Hawksworth's strong performance Thursday night. They were expecting a bullpen start, but Hawksworth went six frames and minimized the damage to the rest of the relief core.
Infielder Tyler Greene, who played well in a utility role when called up earlier this season, has been called up to fill the roster spot vacated by Salas.
