I'm not sure what it is about sweeping a series that the Cardinals find so unappetizing. But they fell to 0-7 in third games of series which they led 2-0 Thursday at the hands of the Blue Jays.
St. Louis co-ace Adam Wainwright didn't have it from the start, allowing a pair of home runs in the first inning to fall behind 3-0. He was gone after four frames with the Birds down 5-0. No matter. The offense couldn't muster even a single run and that's how it ended. They've scored once in their last two games combined, so I guess I shouldn't complain. It's a miracle that the Cardinals managed to win one of those games.
Yeah. That about says it all. Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols reacts to a called strike in the first inning Thursday against the Blue Jays. St. Louis lost 5-0. AP photo.
The Cardinals managed only five hits in the game and never really threatened.
Cardinals Star of the Game: Matt Holliday was the only St. Louis player to reach base safely twice with a double in three at bats and a walk.
Cardinals Play of the Game: Holliday's double made him one of two Redbirds to make it as far as second base.
Lowlight: Colby Rasmus was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
