Albert Pujols didn't make the start against the Nationals after all. Also... Matt Holliday was held out of the game because of sore ribs.
Albert Pujols, who missed two games with a stiff back, and Allen Craig, who has been out since last week with a strained quad, are both expected to play today against the Nationals, according to the Cardinals.
Pujols probably could have played yesterday, but the Birds traveled across state to play the Twins in Fort Meyers and there was really no need for him to ride for four or five hours on a bus to take two or three at bats this early in the spring.
Craig, who is trying to latch onto the major league roster as a pinch hitter and reserve corner infielder and outfielder, probably is chomping at the bit to get in some game action because of competitor Joe Mather's hot start in his absence.
