Wells sent packing by Nats

It appears that former Cardinals project Kip Wells has pitched his last game for the Nationals.

The team has designated the 32-year-old right for assignment. Wells was 0-2 with a 6.49 ERA in 26 1/3 innings this season. He gave up 18 walks and 23 hits while walking 18 batsmen.

For his career, Wells is 65-96 with a 4.71 ERA. He has played for the White Sox, Pirates, Cardinals, Rockies, Royals, Rangers and Nats. He enjoyed his best year with Pittsburgh in 2003 when he was 10-9 with a 3.28 ERA. He was 7-17 for the Cardinals in 2007 with a 5.70 ERA.
