The Mets are a team in turmoil.
After a poor showing in 2009, New York fans booed some of their own players at their home opener. And to top that off, the club is off to a 3-6 start including a 1-4 showing in their last five games -- a pair of losses to the Nationals and two out of three lost to the Rockies.
Tonight the Cardinals send ace Chris Carpenter -- coming off an uncharacteristically lousy start -- against Oliver Perez.
While Carpenter has been giving up homers by the bushel, he was pretty good in his first outing on opening day against the Reds. But Perez has been absolutely terrible since signing a huge contract before the 2009 season. He's 0-1 with a 6.35 ERA this season after winning only three games last year with a 6.82 ERA. He's 2-5 with a 4.84 ERA lifetime against the Cardinals.
On Saturday high dollar Mets ace Johann Santana takes on Cardinals rookie Jaime Garcia.
Sunday night the Cardinals take on the Mets on national TV with Adam Wainwright taking the hill opposite of John Maine.
