Cardinals at Reds, April 5

Final Score: Cardinals 11, Reds 6

Winning Pitcher:
Chris Carpenter, 1-0, 3.00

Losing Pitcher: Aaron Harang 0-1, 5.40

Carpenter gave up two homers in one inning during the season opener. Last season he gave up seven homers all season -- or about 190 innings pitched.

Star of the Game:
It's hard to pass up Albert Pujols when he cracks a pair of homers and collects a couple of other hits, four runs scored and three RBIs to boot. But Colby Rasmus and Yadier Molina also deserve a mention. Rasmus hit his own homer, got a clutch hit late in the game and robbed the Reds' Scott Rolen of a homer with his glove. Molina hit a grand slam to put the game out of reach in the top of the ninth after Felipe Lopez was walked to get to him...

Lowlight: The Cardinals bullpen was given a big cushion... And it needed it. Jason Motte and Ryan Franklin were both roughed up and combined to surrender three runs. Hopefully it can be attributed to opening day jitters and the Birds' pen will be better when the team retakes the field Wednesday.
