The Cardinals on Saturday added infielder Daniel Decalso to 40-man roster and he made his big league debut against the Padres.
It wasn't exactly the thing to write home about, however. Decalso, a lefty hitter, came into the game in the sixth inning as a pinch hitter. But san Diego coutered with a southpaw bullpenner and manager Tony La Russa pinch hit for Decalso with Nick Stavinoha.
Holy Moonlight Graham! He got his name in the box score but never saw a pitch. And at least Graham got to play a half inning in the outfield.
To make room for Decalso, the Birds designated lefty hurler Evan MacLane for assignment. MacLane, who will turn 28 shortly after the end of the season, made two appearances and pitched a total of one inning for St. Louis this season. His ERA was 9.00 and his only decision was a loss when because he allowed a game losing homer.
