The Brian Barton era is over. The Cardinals have traded him to the Braves for righthanded reliver Blaine Boyer.
Boyer has a 40.50 ERA, allowing six runs on three hits in an inning and a third so far this season. The Braves had designated him for assignment when the Cardinals came calling and offered one of their surplus flychasers. He pitched in 76 games last season and put together a 5.88 ERA.

RHP Blaine Boyer
He's only 27, but is it wise to trade for a pitcher the Braves have given up on? Boyer has a powerful yet wild arm. I'm sure the Cardinals hope he is the next Todd Wellemeyer. But Atlanta is pretty good at judging pitching talent.
Barton, who the Cardinals had to carry all last season after plucking him from the Indians organization in the Rule 5 draft, was hitting .107 in Class AAA Memphis.
With the rise of Colby Rasmus and Ryan Ludwick there was no room for Barton in the St. Louis outfield picture now. And it doesn't look promising for the future with Jon Jay and Shane Robinson coming for the future.
