After Thursday's roster shuffled that saw Blaine Boyer designated for assignment and rookie prospect Jess Todd called up to The Show, the Cardinals have decided to play it safe with Lohse and will finally put him on the shelf to recover from being hit on his pitching forearm by a batted ball.
The Birds will finally add some flexibility to their bench by replacing Lohse with position player. Tyler Greene, who didn't deserve to be demoted when Rick Ankiel was reactivated after a DL stay, will be called back to the big club.
Greene was hitting .263 with a pair of home runs when we last saw him in St. Louis. He was hitting .316 with four homers in Memphis including a .378 clip over his last 10 games with eight runs scored, six RBIs and two long balls. He was also successful in both of his stolen base attempts during that span.
