Sorry this is so late in the day... But I didn't want the date to get away without a tip of the cap to Stan the Man Musial on the 69th anniversary of his major league debut.
Stan was 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs against the Boston Braves on Sept. 17, 1941.
He racked up 47 at bats before the season ended, hitting .426 with a homer and seven RBIs. But, most importantly, the fabled sore-armed pitcher made an impression that earned him a shot to make the club in 1942.
Musial hit better than .300 in his first 17 season in the big leagues, retiring in 1963 with a .331 batting averge and 475 homers.
