The Athletics wanted the Cardinals to give them Mitchell Boggs in exchange for 40-year-old reliever Russ Springer.
Today, they ended up giving him to the Rays for nothing.

Apparently the Rays have a thing for former Cardinals relievers. Two seasons ago they added Troy Percival and the most recent off-season they added Jason Isringhausen. Hopefully Springer will stay healthier than those two and get into less trouble that another former Cardinal, Al Reyes, who was released shortly after pummeling a guy outside of a Tampa nightclub last season.
