There is a lot of smoke gathering around the rumor that the Cardinals are working on a deal for Matt Holliday.
Both Sports Illustrated and ESPN are reporting "serious negotiations" between the clubs for the former Rockies slugger, joining the early report from the San Francisco Chronicle.
The bottom line seems to be whether the Cardinals will include Brett Wallace in the deal. I would be shocked if they did. But, with Albert Pujols and Tony La Russa pushing for a slugger and Wallace projecting as a DH in the DH-less national league, it's looking more possible.
After a slow start, Holliday has been red hot in July and is driving his trade value up. Detroit is rumored to be jumping in the mix for the former All-Star slugger.
