The Cardinals claim they shipped Jon Jay, Tyler Greene. Joe Mather and Allen Craig back to the minors so they'd get a chance to play everyday and prove what they are capable of doing.
Apparently that's quite a bit.
All four players have been on a tear since heading back to class Class AAA Memphis, leading the Redbirds offense.
Jon Jay, who already lead Memphis is batting average when he was called up to St. Louis, picked up right where he left off. He's batting .368 for the season with 17 homers and eight stolen bases. Since returning to Memphis he's 7-for-15 with three hits in each of his last two games.
Joe Mather is batting .357 with a homer and a double in his 10 games back in the minor leagues.
Tyler Greene is batting .335 with five homers and 23 RBIs in 166 at bats. If he's got a down side, it's that he's struck out 40 times.
Allen Craig, who got virtually no chance to play with the big league club, is making the most out of starting in Memphis. He's batting .326 over his last 10 games with four doubles a triple and a homer. He's hitting .310 for the season in the minors compared to .053 in St. Louis.
