After a disappointing loss Friday to the Royals, the Cardinals on Saturday stole a game with an above and beyond bullpen start.
Blake Hawksworth was fantastic for five innings, allowing no runs on only two hits. Unfortunately, manager Tony La Russa tried for six innings and Hawksworth ended up getting charged with a pair of runs. And at least one came from a bad call by the umpire at second base.
Colby Rasmus and Skip Schumaker provided all the scoring the Redbirds would need. Rasmus hit a three-run homer and Schumaker hit a two-run shot to power the Cardinals to a 5-3 win.

Jason Motte slammed the door on a Royals rally in the seventh, throwing one pitch to get a double play. Unfortunately his second pitch was his last. Motte left the game after just one toss in the eighth inning due to what was later described as a cramp in his calf.
Ryan Franklin pitched a mercilessly non-eventful ninth inning on a hot, hot, hot day in Kansas City.
Cardinals Star of the Game: Rasmus with two hits in four at bats, including a homer that accounted for three RBIs and a run scored.
Play of the Game: Rasmus' homer.
Lowlight: Brendan Ryan was 0-for-3 to slip down to a .203 batting average.
