It didn't work out for former Cardinals star Jim Edmonds to stage his comeback in St. Louis.
But that doesn't mean Jimmy Ballgame can't help out the Redbirds.
Edmonds blasted a pinch hit home run Monday night for Milwaukee to lead the Brewers to a comeback win over the Reds. The Cincinnati loss knocked the Reds to a full game behind the Cardinals in the National League Central race.
Bronson Arroyo pitched a complete game for Cincinnati in the loss. Edmonds hit a long blast that went just foul with two outs in the eighth inning and the game tied at two. The former Cardinals outfielder recovered and hit Arroyo's next pitch into the bullpen for the eventual winning run.
Edmonds has been limited lately to pinch hitting duties because of an Achillies tendon problem. He said last week that he is likely to retire after the season.
