The Cardinals say that ace Chris Carpenter may miss a start after being hit on the right forearm Monday by a line drive off the bat of the first hitter he faced.
Carpenter remained in the game. But he seemed to be concerned about the arm, repeatedly flexing it and stopping to look at it as the game went along.
The scary thing is that this is the same sort of injury that derailed Kyle Lohse's career. Lohse, who was off to a fantastic start in 2009 before he was hit by a comeback liner. After that he just wasn't the same, eventually being demoted to the bullpen. Lohse rested the arm all winter and still wasn't right this spring which resulted in surgery.
Lohse could be out until August or September... And no one knows what to expect from his return because the injury is so unusual.
