The Cardinals have announced that David Freese tore a tendon in his ankle and he is out for the season.
This is terrible news for the Cardinals who were counting on Freese to come back and play third base while replacing the righthanded RBI bat that was lost with the trade of Ryan Ludwick to the Padres.
Freese finished is rookie campaign with a .296 batting average and 36 RBIs in 70 games before he originally injured his ankle. I have to wonder what his long-term potential is now that he's proven to be fragile.
The St. Louis native spent almost the entire season last year on the disabled list with ankle problems. When they cropped up again this season he was unable to get over the ankle troubles.
