Cardinals re-sign Westbrook

The Cardinals have announced that they have re-signed righthanded pitcher Jake Westbrook.

The contract is for two seasons and is worth $16.5 million. It includes an option for a third season.

Still, you can't have too much pitching and the Birds are set with four good starters -- and one who used to be pretty good at one point -- for at least the next two seasons.

Adam Wainwright is signed through 2013 thanks to his options vesting with a second place finish in the 2010 Cy Young balloting.

Chris Carpenter is signed through next season with an option for 2012.

Westbrook is signed through 2012 with an option for 2013.

Jaime Garcia isn't eligible to be a free agent for three years.

Kyle Lohse is signed through 2012.
