Former Cardinals shortstop Edgar Renteria barely got his fingerprints on his World Series MVP trophy before the Giants passed on his $9.5-million option.
Suffering from a torn biceps and 34 years old, there was a lot of talk that Renteria would retire. But, according to several reports, he has no intention of quitting. Renteria said he hopes he can work out a more reasonable deal with San Francisco.
As much as I like Renteria and his bat, I don't see a fit with the Cardinals. He makes too much money for what the Cardinals have to spend. He's lost quite a bit of range at shortstop and he might make sense at third base. But St. Louis is going to have to look for a more versatile option on the infield.
