Despite the Rangers' recent assurances that Michael Young isn't on the trading block, Fox Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal said the slugging infielder is still being shopped -- and that the Cardinals are one of the teams Texas has talked to.
I can't imagine where the Cardinals would possible fit Young into the payroll -- unless the Rangers were so starved for starting pitching that the were willing to take Kyle Lohse's $23.5 million over the next two seasons back in the deal. And even then the Birds would be taking on more payroll than they were shedding because Young is inked for four more years, twice as long as Lohse's contract runs.
Young can play shortstop, second base and third. If David Freese is healthy, he'd look really nice at second. But if Freese can't play, that would be his obvious landing spot.
As much as I'd like to see another .300 bat with power in the Redbirds lineup, I just can't see this one happening. But that doesn't mean I can't dream.
