Former Cardinals infielder Placido Polanco will have surgery on his throwing elbow this off-season. But he is expected to recover in time for the start of spring training, according to an Associated Press story.
Polanco, who signed a free agent deal with the Phillies last winter after several seasons with Detroit, hit .298 while playing third base for Philadelphia.
I can't help but think how nice the versatile fielder would have looked in St. Louis duds in 2010. He could have played a defense than either third baseman Felipe Lopez or second baseman Skip Schumaker and got on base a lot more often than either of them, too.
Polonco is in his second stint with the Phillies. He was traded there by the Cardinals in the Scott Rolen deal before leaving as a free agent to sign with the Tigers.
