The free agent hunting season has opened and the Cardinals have no deal with Jake Westbrook.
If the Cardinals starter was as interested in staying with the team as we were led to believe, he has a funny way of showing it. Now that Wesbrook can go to the highest bidder... well, let's just say I'd be surprised if the Redbirds are the highest bidder.
The team seems most likely to be looking toward second base as a place for improvement. And it makes sense because last season it was both a defensive and offensive weakness in 2009. Incumbent second sacker Skip Schumaker could fit into the right field picture where he is better suited defensively. Any maybe getting back to where he is more comfortable in the field will revive Schumaker's offense.
