The Cardinals are in hot pursuit of Giants infielder Juan Uribe, according to a report from ESPN's Buster Olney.
The 31-year-old can play second base, third base and shortstop and carries a .256 career batting average with a .300 on base percentage. He averages 15 homers and 60 RBIs a season. Last year Uribe hit .248 with 24 homers and 85 batted in.
A right-handed batter, Uribe made $3.25 million for San Francisco. He previously played for the Marlins and White Sox.
Another Cardinals infield target, Stephen Drew, isn't likely to wear the Birds on the Bat in 2011, according to reports out of Phoenix. The Diamondbacks say that, despite reports that they might trade the shortstop to St. Louis, they haven't talked to the Redbirds about him and plan to keep him.
The rumor mill has been spinning a report of Jon Jay, Mitchell Boggs and Brendan Ryan going to the desert for J.D. Drew's younger brother.
