The Texas Rangers have signed former Cardinals infielder Brian Barden, 29, to a minor league contract.
Barden's a .211 hitter in parts of four major league seasons. He had 135 at bats with the Cardinals in 2007-09 with a .230 average and four homers. He doesn't hit much, but he's a nice infield insurance policy with experience at all four infield positions.
Barden appeared most recently in the majors last season with the Marlins. In 28 at bats, he hit .179 with three RBIs.
