Former Cardinals utilityman "Super Joe" McEwing has been named manager of the Class AAA affiliate of the White Sox.
McEwing, 38, who managed last season at Class A Winston-Salem for the Pale Hose organization, racked up a 38-31 record for The Dash, leading the club to a first place finish in the Carolina League's Southern Division.
He started his playing career with the Cardinals in 1998 and had his best season in 1999 with a .275 average and nine homers in 152 games played. In that season, he played every position for the Birds except catcher.
McEwing was traded to the Mets on March 18 2000 for ancient relief pitcher Jesse Orosco.
