The Reds have lost a valuable piece of their bullpen as ancient lefty Arthur Rhodes has defected to the Rangers.
Rhodes, 41, had a 2.29 ERA with 1.02 walks and hits per inning pitched in 2010 for Cincinnati. He allowed only 38 hits in 55 innings with 50 strikeouts and only 18 walks. Rhodes is 12-12 with a 2.86 ERA since 2005. In that span he pitched 232 2/3 innings and allowed only 183 hits.
Terms have not yet been revealed. But, according to AOL Fanhouse, it's a one-year deal with a vesting option. Rhodes, despite his age, had been looking for a two-year deal. Despite his success, that was apparently a deal that Reds GM Walt Jocketty was unwilling to make.
Rhodes made $2 million a year in 2009 and 2010 with the Reds. He had previously pitched for the Orioles, Mariners, Athletics, Indians, Phillies and Marlins.
