Cardinals Caravan plans released

Current and former Redbirds players will fan out in two weeks, breaking the annual Cardinals Caravan into five separate tours to give fans from Iowa to Tennessee a chance to meet and greet their baseball heroes.

Two caravans will depart on Friday, Jan. 14 through Saturday, Jan. 15; One caravan will make appearances Jan. 15 through Sunday, Jan. 16 and the final two trips are planned for Jan. 16-17, according to the club.

The tours will travel to a total of 19 cities including the homes of Cardinals farm clubs in Memphis, Tenn., Springfield, Mo. and Davenport, Iowa.

Current Cardinals include Mitchell Boggs, Allen Craig, David Freese, Jaime Garcia, Jon Jay, Kyle McClellan and Colby Rasmus. Cardinals 2010 organizational pitcher-of-the-year Shelby Miller, 2010 organizational player-of-the-year Matt Carpenter and 2010 first-round draft pick Zach Cox are also expected to appear.

Former Cardianls on the tours will include Alan Benes, Danny Cox, Jack Clark, Ken Dayley, Cal Eldred, Rex Hudler, Steve Kline, John Mabry, Kerry Robinson, Jason Simontacchi. Cardinals announcers Rick Horton, Al Hrabosky, Mike Claiborne, Jay Randolph and John Rooney will serve as Caravan emcees.
