Former Cardinals hurler Todd Wellemeyer has returned to the team that originally drafted him. On Tuesday the Cubs signed him to a one-year contract.
Why he expects things to be any better this time around, I don't know. But the contract would pay him $800,000 if he makes the team and potentially another $400,000 in incentives.
Wellemeyer pitched for the Giants in 2010 and was 3-5 with a 5.68 ERA. He pitched for the Cardinals from 2007-09 with his best year coming in 2008 when he was 13-9 with a 3.71 ERA.
He was drafted by the Cubs in the fourth round in 2000 and he spent 2003-2005 with the Wee Bears, making 57 appearances as a reliever. He amassed a 6.19 ERA but struck out 110 in 101 innings in that span.
