Mike McDougal signs with the Bums

When they picked up former Kansas City closer Mike MacDougal in July, the Cardinals were hopeful that Dave Duncan could help him get back to the top of his game.

But after 17 St. Louis appearances, MacDougal was 1-1 with a 7.23 ERA and the Cardinals were apparently ready to move on.

MacDougal, who will be 34 in March, signed Friday with the Dodgers. It's a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The tall and thin righty has saved as many as 20 games in three different seasons. He did it most recently with the Nationals in 2009.
