Former Cardinals catcher Mike Matheny will be inducted today into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
Matheny, who played from 1994-2006 with the Brewers, Blue Jays, Cardinals and Giants, was in St. Louis for five seasons -- 2001-2004. During that time he won the Gold Glove three times. He won in a fourth his first season after departing from the Cardinals for San Francisco.
Matheny, 40, retired after the 2006 season because of recurring problems with concussions. But he may have a future in the game as a coach or manager. Matheny groomed current St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina, also a Gold Glove winner, before he left the Cardinals.
