Berkman goes deep in Cardinals debut

Bad elbow or not, former foe Lance Berkman made his Cardinals debut Monday with a splash.

The former Houston outfielder and first baseman homered in the Redbirds Grapefruit League debut against the Marlins. But the pitching was a little bit rough in the early going and St. Louis trails the Marlins 6-3 late in the game.

Berkman was 2-for-2 in the game, playing right field. He cracked his homer in the second inning. Tyler Greene was 2-for-3. Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday were each hitless in two at bats and they each left a pair of runners stranded on base.

Raul Valdez started for the Cardinals and gave up five hits and four earned runs in two innings pitched.
