The Cardinals have scored a pair of runs on a double by Matt Carpenter and a sacrifice fly by Gerald Laird to take a 3-2 lead over the Mets as their Wednesday Grapefruit League game starts the bottom of the eighth.
Jake Westbrook made his first spring training start for the Cardinals today and allowed a pair of runs on five hits in two innings.
But it wasn't as bad as it sounds. The Mets scored both their runs in the second inning on a rally that relied on a walk and a pair of grounders up the middle, an error by centerfielder Colby Rasmus and a blooper blown by a 20 MPH wind from right field toward the plate to right to do the damage.
Lynn was flawless in his first two innings of relief. He struck out two and allowed no hits or walks, throwing his first 10 consecutive pitches for strikes. He added a third inning in which he gave up one hit but no runs and he notched a third strikeout.

He was followed by Jason Motte who threw a pair of scoreless innings, allowing one hit and notching a pair of strikeouts. Trever Miller threw one scoreless inning with one hit allowed.
