Cheap Seats: Wainwright in scary airplane incident

According to television news reports, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright was involved in a scary incident Saturday night at Lambert International Airport.

Passengers aboard the aircraft told KSDK 5 that the plane landed on a snow slickened runway at the airport and began to fishtail as it tried to slow down. The jet apparently ran off the runway, it's landing gear smashing at least one runway light and throwing up dirt in the process of bounding to a stop.

Passengers told the television station that they applauded the pilot for recovering control of the plane and bringing it safely to a stop. They added that Wainwright, who is rehabbing an elbow injury that will keep him off the field for the entire 2011 season, was on board the plane.

Wainwright has traveled back and forth to Cardinals spring training in Jupiter, Fla. to have his elbow attended to since being injured early in pre-season workouts. But the report didn't mention where the flight originated or if any other Cardinals players or staff were on board.
