Cardinals starter Jake Westbrook gave up 11 hits and four runs through 4 1/3 innings Monday against the Marlins at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fla.
Westbrook, while he had flirted with danger, seemed to be settling down when he retired the first two hitters in the third. But he gave up four consecutive hits after that to be dinged for four runs.
In the fourth, Westbrook again got into two out trouble in the fourth with two on base. This time he was able to get out of trouble, however.
The Cardinals were able to shut the Marlins down the rest of the way. But the St. Louis bats remained silent as we near the time when the games start to count.
