Red Sox reverse course, release Reyes

He pitched great in spring training and won a contract from the Red Sox, but a little more than a week into the season, Boston has had second thoughts and has reportedly released bullpen lefty Dennys Reyes.

Reyes got into four games with the Red Sox since the beginning of the season but only managed to get five outs, building a 16.20 ERA in the process and contributing to Boston's 0-6 start to 2011.

Signed to a minor league contract in February after an agreement with the Phillies apparently fell through, Boston purchased Reyes' $900,000 contract on March 26. He was 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in spring training with 10 hits allowed in 11 innings.

He pitched for the Cardinals in 2009 and 2010 and put a 3-3 record together with a 3.40 ERA.
