The hamstring injury that Albert Pujols suffered late in the Cardinals Sunday game against the Reds could keep him on the bench during the Birds entire trip to Houston, the team reports.
The injury was described as "mild" and it shouldn't keep him out for an extended period of time. But the Redbirds are taking the cautious route to make sure that things don't get worse.
With outfielder Allen Craig already on the disabled list, the Birds will likely play Jon Jay in right field and move Lance Berkman to first base, his primary position over the last seven years and where he played Sunday after Pujols was injured.
Mark Hamilton, called up to replace Craig on the roster, is also a first baseman and could see time there if the Cardinals decide to give Berkman a day off.
