The Indians have apparently given up on Jess Todd, a highly-touted Cardinals prospect who Cleveland landed in the ill-fated trade that sent Mark DeRosa to St. Louis.
Todd, St. Louis' minor league pitcher of the year in 2008, appeared in 19 games for the Cardinals and Indians in 2009 and five more with Cleveland in 2010, compiling a 7.62 ERA in the big leagues.
Back in Class AAA this season, Todd has struggled with his control and has given up more runs than innings pitched.
I wonder if the Cardinals have any interest in bringing back the University of Arkansas product. Maybe getting back into the St. Louis system would help Todd recapture some of his previous suceess. And the Cardinals, who lately have been burning through bullpen pitchers at a record pace, could probably use the pitching depth in Class AAA Memphis.
