Sporting News: Cardinals 6th in power poll

The Cardinals are the sixth best team in baseball right now, according to the Sporting News.

The baseball publication credits the resurgence of slugger Lance Berkman and the emergence of relievers Fernando Salas and Eduardo Sanchez as the main reason behind the rise of the Redbirds.

St. Louis is the fourth-higest ranked National League club with the Phillies in third, the Rockies in fourth and the Marlins in fifth in the power poll. The American League's Yankees are second while (cough) Cleveland tops the charts.

The Reds have fallen to 10th place after being overtaken by the Cardinals. The Pirates are 18th, the Brewers 19th, the Cubs 25th and the Astros 26th to round out the National League Central.

The pollsters note that the Brewers may be the Central Division team to watch with Zeck Grienke, Nyjer Morgan and Corey Hart set to return from the disabled list.

The White Sox, Tigers and Twins -- all residents of the AL Central -- round out the bottom of the chart.
