The Cardinals have announced that manager Tony La Russa will miss their entire six-game road trip as he tends to his health.
The skipper, according to the club, is battling shingles. He went to the Mayo Clinic Monday to have his swollen eye, which has lingered on for more than a month, looked at and apparently it was decided that he needs to take some time off to get healthy.
While the timing of the absence is poor because the Birds are on the road facing rivals Chicago and Cincinnati, interim skipper Joe Pettini took off some of the pressure by beating the Cubs in the opener at Wrigley Field.
